Indian police arrest suspects in copper theft and human‑trafficking cases
On 11 July 2026, officers of the Obra police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) seized a man stealing four copper plates, valued at about ₹20,000, from the Obra thermal power project in Jharkhand. The suspect, Kanchan Yadav, was caught red‑handed, handed over to the police and charged under sections 306 and 317(2) of the B.N.S. Act.
A separate operation on 10 July 2026 saw the Sonbhadra police, the Anti‑Human‑Trafficking (AHT) unit and the Robertsganj police jointly arrest Amit Kumar for purchasing a minor for a forced marriage in Uttar Pradesh. The investigation revealed that the victim was bought for roughly ₹1.2 million and forced into a marriage with the accused’s brother. Kumar faces multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code, the POCSO‑Act and other statutes, and the case is now before the court.
