Indian police crack down on vehicle loan and credit card fraud
Police in India have uncovered two distinct fraudulent schemes involving vehicle identity theft and cybercrime.
In Nagpur, the Crime Branch dismantled a racket where transporters used a single legitimate license plate number across four different trucks. This tactic was employed to evade finance companies and avoid detection regarding unpaid vehicle loans and installments. Authorities seized four vehicles and filed fraud charges against several individuals, including Rajendra Singh Satnam Singh Randhawa and others. Investigators suspect a larger network may be using fake plates to evade RTO regulations and financial obligations.
In Mumbai, the LT Marg Police arrested two suspects, Azim Beg Mirza and Moin Rahim Sheikh, in Ahmedabad for a credit card fraud scheme. The suspects posed as RBL Bank representatives, contacting victims to claim their ‘mail order’ credit card facilities needed to be disabled. After sending suspicious links via WhatsApp, they gained unauthorized access to credit cards, using them to purchase luxury goods. Police recovered 25 mobile phones, including brands like Apple and Samsung, valued at approximately 11.66 lakh rupees.
