Indian police intensify crackdowns on drug and arms trafficking

Law enforcement agencies in India have intensified efforts to dismantle drug and illegal arms trafficking networks. In Rajasthan, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma has implemented a new weekly review mechanism. Every Wednesday, high-level meetings will be held at Police Headquarters to monitor anti-narcotics operations and state-level campaigns. Sharma instructed officers to move beyond simple seizures and arrests, instead focusing on identifying and neutralizing entire supply chains and trafficking sources.

In Punjab, the police successfully dismantled three major supply networks involving drugs and illegal weapons. Nine individuals were arrested following operations that resulted in the recovery of over 8 kg of heroin, approximately Rs 12.95 lakh in cash, and eight illegal pistols. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that investigations suggest the accused were in contact with foreign-based handlers to facilitate the movement of heroin and arms consignments.
