Indian police intensify drug enforcement and awareness drives

Law enforcement agencies in India are intensifying efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit liquor sales through the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan initiative.

In the South Andaman District, police have registered 15 cases under the NDPS Act over the last 60 days, seizing approximately 1.05 kg of Meth, 523.75 grams of Charas, and 7.77 kg of Ganja. The operation resulted in 33 arrests. Additionally, 62 excise cases were filed, leading to the seizure of 360.305 litres of IMFL and 58 kg of Handia, with 62 individuals apprehended.

Parallel to enforcement, police have conducted over 50 awareness programs in South Andaman, reaching thousands of students and teachers. In Brahmapur, Odisha, police organized sessions across seven schools and one college, sensitizing approximately 1,000 students to the physical and social consequences of addiction. These programs encouraged students to act as ambassadors for change and promoted resources such as the MANAS portal and the 1933 narcotics helpline.
