Indian police seize counterfeit currency operations in Haridwar and Karnataka

Police in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, uncovered a fake‑currency racket linked to Punjab, arresting six suspects and seizing counterfeit Rs 500 notes, a printer and a vehicle. The suspects, including a dhaba operator and a cloth trader, were alleged to have exchanged genuine cash for counterfeit notes and used printed sheets exposed to sunlight to mimic authentic currency.

In a separate raid in Uppinangady, Karnataka, authorities arrested seven men and confiscated electronic equipment, printed sheets resembling Rs 500 notes, a computer, photocopier and other materials used to produce fake currency. The operation was carried out following a tip‑off and involved coordination with neighboring district police units.
