Assam police seize Rs 10.8 crore drugs; Jharkhand arrests man with 6 kg opium

Assam police intercepted a narcotics consignment valued at roughly Rs 10.8 crore during an overnight raid in Sribhumi district. One suspect was taken into custody while authorities launched a manhunt for additional members of the trafficking network. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the seizure on social media, noting the state's zero‑tolerance stance and the strategic need to curb cross‑border routes linked to the Golden Triangle.

Residents of Sonpur in Nalbari district, once considered a drug‑free area, have rallied for immediate, stringent anti‑drug operations, urging MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and the state cabinet to intervene as they perceive a resurgence of trafficking and related crime.

In Jharkhand, police in West Singhbhum district arrested a man after a tip‑off led to the seizure of six kilograms of opium and cash of Rs 7 lakh. The operation was carried out by a special raid team under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, and the suspect faces charges under the NDPS Act.
