Delhi Police prevent ₹1.53 crore in cyber fraud across five states
The Delhi Police IFSO unit has successfully intervened to prevent cybercriminals from defrauding victims of approximately ₹1.53 crore across five Indian states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The operation utilized a proactive victim identification and protection team to monitor suspicious bank transactions.
Several of the intercepted cases involved ‘digital arrest’ scams, where fraudsters impersonate law enforcement officials via video calls to intimidate victims. In one instance, a 77-year-old retired employee in Najafgarh was prevented from losing an additional ₹3.48 lakh after being held under a simulated digital arrest for 14 days. In Rajasthan, police helped an elderly couple avoid a ₹10 lakh loss after they were threatened with misuse of their Aadhaar cards.
Other significant interventions included saving a retired railway employee and his wife in Uttar Pradesh from a ₹10 lakh loss involving fabricated links to a security incident, and protecting a 65-year-old hospital employee in Maharashtra from a ₹55 lakh fraud.
