Indian port authorities advance major cargo and infrastructure projects

Major Indian port authorities are advancing infrastructure projects to enhance cargo handling and connectivity.

Deendayal Port Authority has launched a tender for the second stage of a road link project for the Tuna-Tekra container terminal near Kandla, Gujarat. The project aims to improve hinterland connectivity and facilitate smoother container movement. The construction is expected to take 240 days, with a scheduled completion date of September 30, 2027. This follows a previous government approval of a ₹472 crore road infrastructure project in the area.

Separately, Kamarajar Port Limited is moving forward with a ₹221 crore project to upgrade General Cargo Berth-1 through a public-private partnership. Seven firms have expressed interest in the project, which has received environmental clearance. The upgrade intends to transform the berth into a multi-purpose facility capable of handling steel, cement, food grains, and containers, increasing its capacity from 2 million to 3 million tonnes per annum.
