Indian Railways adds special Ganeshotsav and Kanwar Yatra trains across the country

The Ministry of Railways has introduced special festival trains to ease travel for pilgrims. For Ganeshotsav, Konkan Railway will run dedicated services and, after lobbying by MPs Dr. Shrikant Shinde and Nresh Mhaskhe, three long‑distance trains will make regular halts at Savantwadi Road station starting 26 July 2026. Sixteen daily special runs are scheduled between Mumbai’s CSMT and Savantwadi, plus additional weekly services to Tiruvananthapuram and other destinations, running from 11 September to 27 September.

For the Kanwar Yatra, Northern Railway announced four special trains linking Delhi, Shamli and Saharanpur with Haridwar and Rishikesh. The Delhi‑Saharanpur MEMU will run from 30 July to 14 August, reaching Haridwar at 22:50 and returning the next morning. A Delhi‑Shamli DEMU will also be extended to Haridwar, and two additional MEMU services will operate via Tapttri, providing direct connections for thousands of pilgrims attending the pilgrimage.
