Indian Railways announces new train services and coach augmentations

Southern Railways has announced the permanent addition of sleeper coaches to several regional trains. The Chennai Egmore-Mangaluru Central Express will receive one additional sleeper coach starting late September. Additionally, the Maveli Express and Malabar Express, both operating between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Mangaluru Central, will each be augmented with one sleeper coach to increase capacity.

Separately, the Railway Ministry has approved a new tri-weekly train service connecting Machilipatnam and Kurnool City via Vijayawada. The Machilipatnam-Kurnool City Express will cover 499 km and include commercial stoppages at 12 stations, including Vijayawada and Nandyal. The service is intended to improve rail connectivity between the coastal and central regions of Andhra Pradesh.
