Indian Railways approves major infrastructure and traction upgrades
Indian Railways has approved two major infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening the rail network.
The first project involves a 142 crore rupee upgrade of the electric traction system for the 73-route kilometer Savalyapuram-Guntur section of the South Coast Railway. Covering 146 track kilometers, this upgrade is intended to bolster the power supply infrastructure, increase the capacity for electric train operations, and improve the reliability of this high-utilization network.
The second project is the construction of a four-lane road overbridge (ROB) on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of the Western Railway. The project has a total cost of 133.23 crore rupees and will be developed on a cost-sharing basis between the Indian Railways and the state government, with each contributing approximately 66.61 crore rupees. The bridge is designed to facilitate smoother road traffic and reduce disruptions to rail operations through grade-separated infrastructure.
