Indian Railways cancels hundreds of trains due to Delhi protests
Indian Railways has cancelled or rescheduled hundreds of trains, including major services like the Rajdhani and Sampoorna Kranti Express, due to anticipated traffic congestion and security measures in Delhi. The disruptions are linked to planned protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The cancellations primarily affect trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between the early morning of October 10 and 2:00 PM. The impact has been felt across several regions, including Lucknow, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Agra, and Gwalior, with some reports indicating delays reaching up to five hours for certain express services.
While the railway administration implemented these measures to prevent passengers from being stranded due to road blockages, the decision has faced criticism from railway unions and passenger organizations for causing significant inconvenience to thousands of travelers. Authorities have advised passengers to check live running status via the National Train Inquiry System (NTES) or the 139 helpline before traveling.
