Indian Railways considers extending hydrogen train service to Delhi
Indian Railways is considering extending its hydrogen-powered train service from the Jind-Sonipat section to Azadpur station in Delhi to address low passenger numbers. Currently, the 89-kilometer route operates with only 40 to 60 passengers despite having a capacity of 2,600 seats.
Due to the low occupancy, the train currently completes only one round trip per day instead of the originally planned two. Officials are evaluating the feasibility of the extension to Delhi, noting that connecting to the Azadpur wholesale fruit and vegetable market could significantly increase ridership. A final decision will depend on technical requirements and operational viability.
