Indian Railways Diwali tickets sell out within minutes
Diwali festival train tickets sold out within minutes of booking opening, causing significant disappointment for passengers planning travel for the upcoming holiday on November 8.
Following the Indian Railways 60-day advance booking rule, reservations for travel on November 6 opened at 8:00 AM via the IRCTC website and station counters. Major express trains departing from Chennai Central, Egmore, and Tambaram toward southern districts—including Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore, and Thoothukudi—reached full capacity almost immediately.
The high volume of simultaneous users caused the IRCTC website and mobile app to experience slowdowns, with many trains quickly moving to ‘waitlist’ status. Passengers have requested that Southern Railway announce additional special trains to accommodate the high demand for travel to southern and Kongu regions.
