Indian Union Cabinet approves Rs 2,010 crore bonus for railway employees

The Indian Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for 1,140,770 non-gazetted railway employees. The total payout amounts to Rs 2,009.61 crore, representing 78 days of wages.

Eligible staff categories include track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers, station masters, supervisors, technicians, and other Group ‘C’ personnel. The maximum bonus amount per eligible employee is set at Rs 17,951. This annual incentive is traditionally distributed ahead of the Durga Puja and Dusshera holidays to motivate staff and recognize operational performance.

The decision follows a strong performance period for Indian Railways in FY26, during which the network carried approximately 7.41 billion passengers and loaded a record 1,670 million tonnes of cargo. The bonus payout is approximately Rs 143.93 crore higher than the previous year, covering 49,600 more employees.
