Indian Railways expands service with new trains and extra coaches
Indian Railways has announced several initiatives to expand service and manage passenger demand. The agency has approved seven new Amrit Bharat Express trains designed to increase long-distance connectivity across various northern regions of the country.
To address immediate surges in passenger volume, the railway is also implementing a temporary augmentation of coaches on several express routes. Between August 15 and 21, 2026, several trains, including the Howrah–Puri Express and the Shalimar–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, will receive additional Sleeper Class and 3rd AC coaches. Other routes, such as the Shalimar–Puri and Santragachi–Yelahanka Express, will also see increased capacity to ease travel during this high-demand period.
