Vande Bharat Express hits 100 kmph on Kashmir rail route

The maximum permissible speed on the 111-km Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) has been increased from 75 km/h to 100 km/h. This change follows successful speed trials conducted on Friday.

During the testing, a Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 26401/26404) reached 100 km/h while crossing the Chenab Bridge, recognized as the world’s highest railway arch bridge, and the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the milestone as a significant achievement for Indian engineering. The speed enhancement is expected to reduce travel times, improve operational efficiency, and provide faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys for passengers traveling between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.
