Indian Railways introduces new token system for Tatkotl tickets from August 1
The West Central Railway (WCR) zone of Indian Railways will revamp the Tatkal ticket booking process on 1 August. Under the new rules, tokens will be issued before the booking window opens, allowing passengers to wait at the counter rather than stand in long queues.
For AC Tatkal tickets, token distribution will run from 08:30 to 09:00 am and booking will start at 10:00 am. For non‑AC (sleeper) tickets, tokens will be handed out between 09:30 and 10:00 am with booking beginning at 11:00 am. Each counter may issue a maximum of 10 AC tokens and 15 non‑AC tokens. Passengers must present a valid photo ID, which will be recorded on the token to prevent misuse by scalpers.
The changes aim to reduce crowding at reservation counters, limit the activities of ticket‑agents, and make the Tatkal booking experience smoother for regular travelers.
