Indian Railways launches Visakhapatnam station upgrade and indigenous high‑speed signaling system
Indian Railways approved a major modernization project for the Visakhapatnam Vagon Garı. The plan, budgeted at about 299 crore rupees, will add six new platforms and six new tracks, install an electronic lock system and substantially improve passenger facilities.
At the same time, the Ministry of Railways is accelerating work on a fully domestic signalling platform called the Bharat Train Control System (BTCS). The system is intended for future high‑speed rail lines and aims to cut dependence on foreign train‑control technology, supporting India's broader push to modernise its rail network.
