Indian Railways to expand Vande Bharat Sleeper network with 50 new trains
Indian Railways is expanding its premium long-distance network with the planned addition of 50 new Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets. These upcoming models will feature 24 coaches each, a significant increase from the 16-coach versions currently in operation.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai has completed the detailed design drawings for these high-capacity trains. The 24-wagon configuration is designed to accommodate approximately 1,224 passengers, representing a 48% increase in capacity over the existing 16-wagon models.
The new trainsets will include a mix of First Class, Second Class, and Third Class sleeper cars, along with a dedicated dining car. Designed for a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h, the expansion aims to meet the rising demand for efficient, modern overnight and long-distance travel across India.
