Indian Railways updates vacancy assessment and announces apprentice recruitment
The Indian Railway Board has issued new directives regarding vacancy assessment within the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) Indent Management module. Effective from the 2027 annual recruitment calendar, the modifications aim to broaden the assessment of Direct Recruitment (DR) quota vacancies. The new process will incorporate future Crew Review data by averaging the number of posts created by a division or unit over the preceding two years to anticipate increases. Additionally, No Objection Certificates (NOCs) received for Inter-Railway Request Transfers (IRRT) will now be factored into vacancy assessments, with vacancies being adjusted between sending and receiving zones.
Separately, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) has announced a recruitment drive for 44 apprentice trainees for the 2026–27 financial year. The vacancies are distributed across the East Zone, including Kolkata, Guwahati, and Patna, consisting of 34 Graduate Apprentice positions and 10 Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) roles. Eligible candidates can apply online via NAPS or NATS portals from October 9 to October 26, 2026.
