Indian Register of Shipping approves Volteo Maritime’s electronic record book

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has granted type approval to WAYSHIP, an electronic record book (ERB) developed by Volteo Maritime. The certification marks a step toward the indigenization of digital record-keeping in the Indian maritime sector.

The WAYSHIP platform is designed to replace physical documentation with digital systems for various statutory shipboard records. This includes engine and deck logbooks, oil record books, ballast water record books, and garbage record books. Additionally, the system supports MARPOL Annex VI compliance, covering records for fuel changeovers, NOx Tier II/III switching, and exhaust gas cleaning systems.

Volteo Maritime CEO Surendra Lingareddy stated that transitioning from paper to digital formats is a prerequisite for more advanced technologies, noting that digital data serves as the foundation for future API and artificial intelligence applications. The type approval certificate was presented at the IRS headquarters in Mumbai.
