Mitsotakis meets Macron and Telekom CEO to discuss energy and digital investments

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held high-level meetings in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron and in Athens with Telekom Group CEO Tim Höttges.

During the meeting with Macron, discussions focused on the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project, which aims to establish an electrical interconnection between Greece and Cyprus. The French investment firm Meridiam has agreed to become a majority shareholder in the company responsible for developing the project. The leaders also addressed regional stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, specifically noting the impact of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz on global energy costs. Additionally, Greece and France discussed joint initiatives to ban social media access for children under 15.

In a separate meeting, Mitsotakis met with Tim Höttges to discuss Telekom Group’s strategic investment plan in Greece. The group intends to invest 600 million euros annually, primarily targeting the expansion of 5G infrastructure and fiber optic networks. The conversation also touched upon the importance of artificial intelligence and the need for Europe to secure technological sovereignty and competitiveness in the global digital landscape.
