Indian stocks surge as US‑Iran tension eases and oil prices tumble

Indian equity markets rebounded sharply on Monday, snapping a five‑day losing streak. The BSE Sensex rose 776 points to close at 76,835.78 and the NSE Nifty edged up to 23,995.95, near the 24,000 level. A sharp fall in global crude prices – Brent crude dropped roughly 9 % to about $87.6 per barrel – followed the United States and Iran’s pause in military strikes, easing West‑Asia tensions and boosting risk appetite. The Indian rupee strengthened, gaining 28 paise to trade around 96.25 per US dollar, while foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹3,892.77 crore on Friday. The rally was mirrored in other markets: the U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped more than 400 points (≈0.9 %), the Nasdaq Composite rose about 0.8 %, and Canadian indices opened higher. Broad‑based buying was led by information‑technology and real‑estate stocks, and market volatility fell sharply.
