Indian Shares Jump as Global Tensions Ease, RBI MPC Decision Awaited
Global market tension eased after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bates indicated a possible agreement with Iran to reopen the Hormuz Strait, prompting a sharp decline in crude‑oil prices. The outlook lifted Indian equities, with the Sensex gaining 626 points (0.8%) to 79,055.38 and the Nifty rising 54.3 points (0.22%) to 24,669.20. Early trading was led by realty and infrastructure stocks, while top gainers included IndusInd Bank, L&T, and Bajaj Finance. Foreign institutional investors continued net buying, whereas domestic institutions recorded net withdrawals.
Asian markets traded higher, with Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul and Jakarta in the green, while Hong Kong was flat. U.S. markets closed with strong gains, the Dow up 1.71% and the tech index up 2.59%. Indian investors awaited the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee decision scheduled for 10 a.m. local time.
