Indian state commissions implement recruitment reforms

Indian state public service commissions are implementing reforms to streamline and modernize government recruitment processes.

In West Bengal, the state Public Service Commission (PSC) will now oversee recruitment for cooperatives and municipalities, absorbing duties previously held by the Municipal Service Commission and the Cooperative Service Commission. The government plans to fill 17,714 Group A, B, and C vacancies in a phased manner, with 8,006 new vacancies scheduled for the first phase. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has directed that delayed examination results be expedited.

In Karnataka, the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) is moving toward a model inspired by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The commission aims to complete selection processes and announce results within three to five months by leveraging technology and increasing transparency. New measures include scanning OMR answer sheets immediately after exams to allow candidates to verify their own sheets online, with a goal of publishing results within one week of exam completion.
