Indian states adopt AI to enhance governance and social welfare
Indian state governments are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence to modernize administrative functions and social welfare delivery.
The Government of Kerala has selected SAS as a strategic analytics partner through the Kerala State IT Mission. This collaboration aims to use advanced analytics and AI to strengthen social welfare programs by improving beneficiary selection, eliminating duplicate citizen records, and enhancing disaster prevention and response. The initiative seeks to optimize scheme management and provide real-time insights for better policy decisions.
In Maharashtra, the state government has approved the deployment of Sarvam AI’s Indus platform for approximately 2,500 officials. This sovereign AI workspace is designed to assist with routine administrative tasks such as research, drafting, data analysis, and translation across 22 languages, including Marathi. The platform operates on secure, audited infrastructure located within India to ensure data security while streamlining government workflows.
