Indian states Bihar and Sikkim kick off legislative sessions, Bihar faces NEET exam leak protests

The Bihar Legislative Assembly began its five‑day monsoon session on 20 July 2026, marking the completion of the government's first 100 days. While the ruling side prepared to table a Supplementary Budget and other bills, opposition members of the RJD staged a protest inside the assembly complex, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Prasad and the dissolution of the National Testing Agency over alleged NEET paper leakage. Security was heightened with additional police deployment.

Meanwhile, the Sikkim Assembly opened a four‑day budget session on the same day. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the state’s 2026‑27 budget. The agenda includes several bills on health, education, private university regulation, skill development and fire‑service reforms, with the Governor’s address scheduled to open the session. The Sikkim session is expected to run until 23 July.
