Indian states Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh move toward Uniform Civil Code

Chief Ministers in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have announced plans to implement Uniform Civil Codes (UCC) in their respective states, citing the constitutional spirit of equality.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma stated that the proposed Rajasthan Civil Code-2026 aims to provide a uniform legal framework for all citizens, aligning with Article 44 of the Indian Constitution. During an Independence Day ceremony in Bikaner, Sharma also noted the government's focus on security measures, including the Rajasthan Disturbed Areas Act and the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.

In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav confirmed that the UCC, recently passed by the state Assembly, will be enforced to end discriminatory practices and promote social harmony. Yadav emphasized that the move aligns with the principle of 'one nation, one constitution, one head and one flag' to ensure the same laws apply to all citizens.
