Indian states Telangana and Kerala advance PMAY housing schemes

Indian states Telangana and Kerala are advancing implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing schemes.

In Telangana, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has requested the Central government to allocate housing for 1,156,915 rural poor families in a single tranche under PMAY-G 2.0. The state conducted a door-to-door survey via the Awaas Plus-2024 application to identify eligible beneficiaries. To support this, the Telangana government has allocated ₹5 lakh in financial assistance per family in the state budget, which will be provided in addition to Central and regular state shares.

In Kerala, the state government is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre to provide housing for approximately 30,000 beneficiaries under PMAY-U 2.0. The move aims to secure ₹450 crore in Central assistance. Under the revised guidelines, the total assistance per homeless beneficiary is ₹4 lakh, with the Centre contributing ₹1.50 lakh and the state providing ₹1 lakh, while the remaining costs are shared by the municipality and the beneficiary.
