Indian stock exchanges and banks announce October 2026 holiday schedules

Major financial institutions in India have scheduled upcoming closures for October 2026. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will both be closed on Tuesday, October 20, in observance of Dussehra. This suspension affects trading across equities, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing segments. Because this is an official trading holiday, it will not count as a business day for the clearing and settlement of trades, meaning obligations will roll over to the next working day.

Regarding banking services, branches will operate normally from Monday, October 5, through Friday, October 9. Closures are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, due to the second Saturday holiday, with additional regional closures for Mahalaya Amavasye in areas such as Bengaluru and Kolkata. Banks will also be closed nationwide on Sunday, October 11. While physical branch services like cheque clearances and cash deposits will be unavailable during these closures, electronic banking, ATMs, and mobile payment systems will remain fully functional.
