Indian stock exchanges implement F&O bans and observe holiday closures

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has placed four stocks under a futures and options (F&O) trading ban due to high open market interest. The affected securities are Steel Authority of India, Manappuram Finance, Life Insurance Corporation of India, and Bandhan Bank. The ban was triggered because the open interest for these stocks exceeded 95% of the market-wide position limit (MWPL). These stocks will remain restricted from derivative trading until the position falls below 80%, though they remain available for trading in the cash market.

Separately, the Indian stock market will observe a weekend closure on August 15, 2026, for Independence Day. As the holiday falls on a Saturday, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will not observe an additional weekday holiday. August 2026 includes ten non-trading days, all consisting of regular weekend closures.
