Indian stock markets closed for Gandhi Jayanti

Indian equity markets, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), are closed on Friday, October 2, in observance of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The suspension of trading affects all segments, including equity, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB). The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) is also closed for both morning and evening sessions.

The holiday marks the beginning of a three-day break, as markets will remain closed through the weekend and resume operations on Monday, October 5. Other scheduled holidays for October include Dussehra on October 20.

Prior to the closure, market benchmarks faced downward pressure. The Sensex closed lower at 71,909.70, and the Nifty settled at 22,421.95. Analysts attribute recent market volatility to factors such as foreign fund outflows, rising bond yields, and increased crude oil prices.
