Indian stock market faces paradox as growth rises while Nifty 50 declines

The Indian equity market is experiencing a significant divergence between economic growth indicators and stock performance. While real GDP has risen by 7.8 percent and tax collections—including GST—have increased by double digits, major indices have struggled. The Nifty 50 has seen a seven-week decline, recently closing at 23,140, down from a record of 26,004 two years prior.

This market trend highlights a paradox where rising output and spending do not translate to equity gains. Consumption appears to be following a K-shaped pattern, with premium products performing better than mass-market goods. For instance, while equipment makers like Dixon Technologies have seen growth, consumer brands such as Voltas and Havells have faced declines.

Technical analysis of the Nifty 50 indicates that while certain sectors like Auto and Consumer show strength, the index's overall direction remains heavily dependent on the participation of heavyweight sectors, particularly banking, to sustain any bullish momentum.
