Indian stock market: Four top companies gain ₹1.43 lakh crore in market cap
The Indian stock market experienced significant shifts in market capitalization among its top 10 companies last week. Four major companies saw a combined market cap increase of approximately ₹1.43 lakh crore, led by the State Bank of India (SBI), which gained ₹63,922.03 crore following strong Q1 FY27 results. Other gainers included Reliance Industries (up ₹32,816.4 crore), Tata Consultancy Services (up ₹31,875.35 crore), and Larsen & Toubro (up ₹14,637.76 crore).
Conversely, six of the top 10 companies saw a combined decline of roughly ₹1.23 lakh crore. The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) experienced the largest drop, losing ₹40,543.23 crore. Other notable declines were seen in Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Hindustan Unilever.
Broader market indices showed mixed performance. The Sensex and Nifty closed with slight gains, while recent trading sessions have seen volatility influenced by geopolitical tensions, US employment data, and fluctuations in crude oil prices. Investors remain cautious ahead of upcoming inflation data and developments regarding US-Iran relations.
