Indian student arrested in Germany for Arizona student murder
Varun Batsigari, a 19-year-old student from India, has been arrested in Berlin, Germany, in connection with the murder of 20-year-old university student Julissa Rubi Salazar in Tucson, Arizona.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred near the University of Arizona. Prosecutors allege that Batsigari strangled Salazar in her apartment after she had expressed intentions to end their relationship. The victim had reportedly experienced previous instances of violence and sexual assault by the suspect.
Following the crime, Batsigari allegedly stole Salazar's mobile phone and credit cards and sent messages to her mother, which alerted the family to potential danger. He then fled the United States, traveling from Tucson to Houston and finally to Germany, with the suspected intention of reaching India. He was apprehended in Berlin following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Tucson police.
