Indian Student Movement Sparks London Solidarity Protests

Hundreds of Indian students and supporters gathered at Trafalgar Square in London on 26 July 2026, organised by the UK unit of the Students' Federation of India (SFI‑UK). The rally celebrated the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after a 36‑day agitation in New Delhi over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET paper‑leak controversy. Participants waved the Indian flag, held placards such as “Ban NEET”, and chanted slogans of “Azadi”.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg joined the demonstration outside the Indian High Commission, expressing solidarity with the Indian student movement. SFI‑UK highlighted the protest as a “celebration of the victory” and reiterated calls for transparency and reform of India's examination system. The protests follow earlier nationwide actions, notably a July 20 clash in Delhi that resulted in injuries and accusations of police repression.
