Indian telecom operators owe Rs 1.41 lakh crore in AGR dues

Indian telecom operators face total outstanding adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues of Rs 1,40,876.63 crore as of March 31, 2026, according to government data provided to the Rajya Sabha.

Vodafone Idea holds the largest share of these liabilities, owing Rs 66,149 crore. The Bharti Group follows with Rs 41,178.58 crore, while the Tata Group owes Rs 16,649.77 crore. MTNL’s outstanding dues are recorded at Rs 14,870.39 crore, and Reliance Jio Infocomm owes Rs 2,028.89 crore.

Government-owned BSNL has no outstanding AGR dues following the settlement of liabilities through equity infusion under a 2022 revival package. For MTNL, the government indicated that dues would be realized through asset monetization.

The Department of Telecommunications noted that service providers not undergoing insolvency or liquidation were offered a moratorium of up to four years for payments related to fiscal years up to 2018-19. While some groups opted for the moratorium, they did not convert interest amounts into equity.
