Indian Union Ministers adopt Substack for direct public communication

Indian Union Ministers are increasingly utilizing the digital publishing platform Substack to communicate directly with citizens, industry leaders, and policy stakeholders. This shift allows for longer-form perspectives on government initiatives, moving beyond traditional press releases and social media posts.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently joined this trend, using his newsletter to share reflections on a productive visit to Japan. His post, titled ‘Four Days, Three Cities, and a Partnership Coming of Age’, discusses the future trajectory of the India-Japan partnership, specifically regarding economic and strategic cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and supply-chain resilience.

Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has also established a Substack presence. His writing focuses on government policies and industrial development, including a recent detailed post on the efforts to build India’s domestic semiconductor ecosystem, covering everything from chip design and manufacturing to assembly and testing.
