Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav wins Commonwealth Games silver

Indian lifter Gyaneshwari Yadav earned a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weight‑lifting event at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, posting a total of 199 kg (88 kg snatch, 111 kg clean‑and‑jerk). She finished behind Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih, who set a Games record with a 206 kg total, and ahead of Canada’s Rebeka Groulx, who took bronze with 178 kg.

Yadav, a 22‑year‑old from Chhattisgarh, entered the competition as the top‑ranked Commonwealth lifter after winning bronze at the Asian Championships and gold at the 2023 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. The silver marks her debut at the Games and continues India’s strong showing in weightlifting.

The event was held in Glasgow, Scotland, featuring athletes from across the Commonwealth, with medals also claimed by Nigeria and Canada.
