Indian Youth Congress challenges Delhi Police protest ban in High Court
The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has approached the Delhi High Court to challenge a decision by the Delhi Police to deny permission for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The protest was intended to target Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In a petition filed by IYC National President Uday Bhanu Chib, the organization argues that the police's refusal constitutes a blanket ban that lacks individualized assessment, thereby violating fundamental rights to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly under the Constitution.
Concurrently, IYC members staged a protest march from Raisina Road toward Jantar Mantar. The march was intercepted by Delhi Police, who utilized heavy deployment and barricading to prevent demonstrators from reaching the site. IYC leaders accused the central government of shielding Gyanesh Kumar and demanded his immediate resignation, vowing to continue their protests despite police intervention.
