Indiana basketball focuses on roster size and depth

Indiana basketball head coach Darian DeVries has prioritized increasing the size and depth of his roster heading into his second season. Speaking at the Big Ten Media Days, DeVries noted that the frontcourt was a primary focus to improve rebounding and shot-blocking.

Key additions to the frontcourt include 7-foot transfer Aiden Sherrell from Alabama and 7-foot-2 transfer Samet Yigitoglu from SMU. These additions are intended to provide more flexibility, allowing the team to utilize double-big lineups while maintaining offensive spacing. The roster construction also aimed for stability by targeting players with multiple years of eligibility through the transfer portal.

On the perimeter, DeVries highlighted former Notre Dame guard Marcus Burton as a key playmaker and defender. While the team has added scoring options to avoid over-reliance on single players, DeVries noted that perimeter defense remains a critical area for the undersized backcourt to address.
