Indiana deputy shoots driver after U.S. 41 pursuit

An Indiana sheriff’s deputy shot and injured a driver following a vehicle and foot pursuit on Sunday evening. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when a Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a 2009 Infiniti G37 for a traffic violation on U.S. 41 near Boswell.

The driver failed to stop, leading to a chase that moved from Benton County into Warren County. After the vehicle stopped near County Road 650 North, the driver fled into a field on foot. According to Indiana State Police, the driver reportedly indicated he was armed. After a failed attempt to use a taser, the deputy fired his weapon when the driver allegedly disobeyed commands and advanced toward him.

The driver was struck at least once and transported to a hospital in Indianapolis. His current condition has not been released. The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident, and findings will be submitted to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
