Indiana flooding causes multiple deaths and widespread power outages

Severe flooding and intense storms in Indiana have resulted in at least five to seven deaths and hundreds of evacuations. In Delaware County, more than 350 evacuations were conducted as authorities declared a state of emergency following heavy rainfall that began last Thursday.

The storms caused significant infrastructure damage, including a massive power outage that left approximately 300,000 homes without electricity. In Indianapolis, waters have begun to recede from the White River, though emergency operations remain ongoing.

Governor Mike Braun announced the launch of a disaster relief fund, providing $5,000 to individuals in need of essential items such as food and clothing. While Indiana begins the recovery process, the National Weather Service warned that heavy rain and thunderstorms would persist before a cold front moves through the region. Meanwhile, extreme heat alerts have been issued for several southern and southwestern states, including Mississippi, Arizona, and California.
