Indiana Governor Braun addresses midterm losses and fuel tax relief

Following the midterm elections, Indiana Governor Mike Braun described Democratic gains in the state as a “wake-up call” for the Republican Party. Democrats successfully broke the GOP supermajority by flipping 16 House seats and gaining influence in the state Senate. Braun attributed the losses to national economic concerns, specifically inflation, rather than his administration's performance.

In response to economic pressures, Governor Braun signed executive orders to extend Indiana’s energy emergency through December 4. This action continues the suspension of the Gasoline Excise Tax and the Gasoline Usage Tax to provide relief for families and farmers. Additionally, he extended the suspension of special fuel restrictions for farmers and timber harvesters to reduce transportation costs during the harvest season.
