Indiana Governor Braun visits Red Cross to thank disaster relief volunteers

Indiana Governor Mike Braun visited the American Red Cross Indiana Region headquarters in Indianapolis to recognize the efforts of volunteers and staff assisting communities affected by severe storms and flooding in August.

Red Cross CEO Terry Stigdon reported that the organization has delivered over 55,000 meals and snacks, issued tens of thousands of emergency supplies, and provided shelter for hundreds of individuals. As of the latest update, approximately 123 people remain in shelters while staff work to find permanent housing options.

Following a major disaster declaration approved on August 26, FEMA has distributed more than $38.5 million to Indiana residents. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated $26 million in Emergency Relief funding to repair damaged roads and bridges throughout the state.
