Indiana Governor coordinates flood recovery and federal aid request

Governor Mike Braun is overseeing recovery efforts in central Indiana following severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall that pushed the White River to historic levels. The flooding has caused significant infrastructure damage and displaced families in communities such as Noblesville and Carmel. In Noblesville alone, Mayor Chris Jensen reported damages of at least $10 million.

State officials have spent $5 million on recovery efforts thus far, including $5,000 per family for temporary housing, food, and clothing. Indiana expects to submit a formal request for a federal disaster declaration within the coming days once data collection is complete.

Regarding utility services, approximately 65,000 customers remain without power following statewide outages that peaked above 300,000. Governor Braun criticized NIPSCO management for the pace of restoration and has deployed the Indiana National Guard, State Police, and other state agencies to assist utility crews and secure work zones.
