Indiana high school football sectionals begin with opening round results

The IHSAA high school football postseason has commenced with sectional play for Classes 1A through 4A. The opening round featured a mix of high-scoring victories and narrow escapes, with several teams recording massive offensive totals, including Knightstown’s 84-point performance and Salem’s 80-point margin.

Losing-record teams struggled during the opening night, finishing with a combined 30-81 record. However, a few notable upsets occurred, such as 1-8 Shenandoah defeating 5-4 Winchester 48-14. In the higher classifications, Franklin Central advanced in Class 6A by shutting out Southport 43-0, while Mt. Vernon (Fortville) secured the lone Class 5A play-in victory against Greenfield-Central 34-18.

The tournament continues toward the state championships, which are scheduled to take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis during Thanksgiving weekend.
