Indiana man arrested after fatal single-vehicle crash

Steven E. Spurling, 34, of Marengo, Indiana, was arrested following a single-vehicle crash near Leavenworth on August 8. According to the Indiana State Police and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Spurling was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado when he lost control and struck a tree on East Wyandotte Avenue.

The passenger, James Spurling, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that Steven Spurling showed signs of impairment during the investigation and was subsequently charged with a Level 4 felony for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, as well as a Class C misdemeanor for reckless driving.
