Rail safety organizations launch North American outreach campaign

Rail safety organizations and law enforcement agencies are conducting widespread outreach during Rail Safety Week and the 10th annual See Tracks? Think Train! Week, running from September 21-27, 2026. The campaign involves coordinated efforts across North America, including Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

As part of the initiative, Operation Clear Track is mobilizing hundreds of first responders and law enforcement agencies to station personnel at railroad grade crossings. These teams are focused on educating the public, distributing safety materials, and enforcing trespassing and crossing laws. In Marysville, the local police department conducted a focused detail resulting in 32 infractions and two arrests.

In Indiana, the 15th annual Indiana Rail Safety Week includes expanded enforcement and education activities supported by Governor Mike Braun. Major railroad partners, including CPKC, CSX, and CN, are also participating by urging motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists to obey all warning signals and avoid trespassing on railway property to prevent collisions and fatalities.
